Compton Verney
Compton Verney opened in 2004 after major restoration work which transformed a derelict Grade I listed mansion into an award-winning art gallery. It offers a unique opportunity to view art in the setting of a Robert Adam house located in 120 acres of spectacular ‘Capability’ Brown parkland.
There are six permanent collections: paintings from the ‘Golden Age’ of Neapolitan art 1600-1800; Germanic paintings and sculptures 1450-1650; British Portraits including a collection of Tudor portraits; the best collection of Chinese bronzes outside London; the largest collection of British folk art in the UK; and the Marx-Lambert collection of popular art.
Compton Verney mounts a programme of international temporary exhibitions of both historic and contemporary art, supported by a diverse range of events, talks, tours and workshops.
