Use the wonderful variety of objects and works of art from the Walllace Collection as inspiration for your students’ creative writing. Create a piece of Travel Writing by journeying on the Grand Tour through our collection or develop a number of dramatic monologues through the numerous characters depicted in our paintings and work of art.

Students will have the opportunity to work with one of our professional writers throughout the workshop. Or, if you can not visit us, we can visit to you. Our Creative Wring workshops can also be run as outreach sessions at your school or college.

At all 5 museums

In 2006 and 2007 the Museum Network participated in the national Architecture Week event. In 2006 this led to KS3 and KS4 classes being offered photographic workshops across all 5 sites.This was developed in 2007 to include photography, the use of sustainable materials, working with professional architects and developing plans using actual architectural plans for a museum development .

The Architecture Week workshops at the partner museums provide a unique opportunity for students to experience the world of architecture within the wonderful surroundings of the 5 museum sites.

The 5 museums hold a number of outstanding and exceptional landscapes within the collections. These workshops provide a great opportunity for KS3 and 4 pupils to get in close to analyse the techniques, styles and context that led to the creation of these wonderful works of art.

The ‘Landscapes in Art’ eLearning resource can be used in preparation for, or as a follow up to, the Landscapes workshops at any one of the Network Museums.

Created at The Wallace Collection, now also available at The Bowes Museum, and The Holburne Museum of Art.

Working with artists, groups study nudes in the collections, from Renaissance sculptures to Rococo paintings; they learn about the conventions of portraying the nude form and then use this knowledge to inform their own practical work, drawing from a life model.

In May 2006 classes of GCSE Fashion Students from Waddesdon C of E Secondary School visited Waddesdon Manor in order to learn about some of the costume and accessories in the collection from experts (Textile Conservator Jane Mathews and Curator Matthew Hirst) and to gain inspiration for their 6 month project. This way of getting young people to see the use and possibilities of museums to inform their own practical work is very important. All of the Network museums are happy to accommodate and work with schools to provide places of research and inspiration, and venues for the pupils to showcase their finished work alongside the work’s original stimuli
