Producing works of art in clay was hard work and could be dangerous. Poisonous materials like lead and manganese were used to decorate pieces and were dangerous to work with. Carrying heavy sacks of clay around was very hard work. There was a lot of pressure to get things made quickly because the more you made the more money you could earn.
