Wood

Where is Wood From?

A example of wooden marquetry

Wood has been used by humans throughout history to make practical and decorative objects. Wood comes from trees. It is strong and solid, does not break easily and it can support a lot of weight.

Trees used to be cut down from naturally growing forests but nowadays a lot of wood is gathered from forests that are replanted with young trees after the mature trees are felled (cut down). These are called sustainable forests. Some wood is cheap because it grows quickly and is easy to get hold of, whereas other wood is expensive because it grows slowly or because it grows in other countries and has to be imported.
