The Ewer and Basin show the importance of ceremony before the meal has even begun. These fabulous silver objects were made for diners to wash their hands before eating.

Likewise, the Covered Standing Cup commemorates a particular hunt where a stag was killed. Hunting in the 18th century was a completely acceptable activity and a major pastime for the wealthy. Many eating and drinking rituals evolved around hunting and this cup may have been part of such a ritual.
