Worship Info - Afterlife - (Page 4 of 5)
Most religions have a strong belief in the afterlife. A reliquary was often produced to house the relics (bones, hair or parts of clothing) of a saint, because, for Christians in medieval times, the practice of worshipping saints and buying holy relics was considered vital to saving one's soul.
Many reliquaries were formed as a result of this medieval practice and were often dubious in their provenance.
In some cultures, important people are buried with objects which they might find useful in the next life. For example, the elaborately decorated Chinese Moon Flask which was part of a burial and which displays the symbols for truth and respect, as well as the Equestrian Figures possibly intended for entertainment in the afterlife.
